Meet Your Teacher
Hello! 👋 My name is Joshua Bound, and I am a former teacher at Whales English. Out of all teachers at Whales English I received the most praise from the company. I was asked to train other teachers, evaluate their performance as teachers, and to coach them if they needed help meeting the standards that Whales English expected from its teachers. These were an extra 3 jobs in addition to my teaching, for a total of 4 areas of responsibility at Whales English.
To continue a long career in English teaching, I joined Whales English at the end of 2019. I achieved the most high scores in a year and was asked to become a coach to help other teachers who received low scores for their teaching skills. In the same week I was asked to become a trial class trainer, and was one of 2 people in the company permitted to teach both English Starter Class trainings and Trial ABC trainings. (You may remember “A Bird”, “Red the Hen”, “A Day at Water Camp”, “Hunt with Joy and Roy” or “When the Wolves Returned”. I taught other teachers how to teach those lessons, how to use the Whales English platform, and how to reach the standards that Whales English had set for them.
Based upon the evaluations that I gave other teachers, which were based upon rubrics, teachers would receivev awards, passing grades, or even disciplinary action from Whales English. I was one of approximately 52 carefully selected teachers at Whales English that had this duty. You may already be aware that teacher ratings were done internally.
It is, and has always been, my goal to help students and other teachers reach their highest potentials. I look forward to helping your child reach his or hers.

Service That I Offer
- Preview Videos
Please note this feature is unavailable now but is coming soon. Whales English did not offer preview or review videos to the teachers to view, so teachers do not have them. I have taken it upon myself to start making preview videos, so students can prepare before the class. I apologize but I will be unable to make review videos. I am working to create a text-based review for students. Please understand that this is a significant amount of unpaid work, and each video takes at least 30 minutes to make at a minimum. Some videos (Oxford Reading Tree) take 45 minutes or more to make due to writing the script and finding appropriate pictures for the words. Please have patience with me, I care very much about giving your child the very best education. I am working to provide this service as soon as I can.
- Grading Homework
I understand that homework is very important to students and parents. I have always, and will continue to grade your child’s homework with as much care and attention to detail as possible. I will correct their mistakes, encourage them, and tell them how they can improve. I will include examples of sentences that are better to use if needed and develop your child into the best English writer they can be. Please understand that I am providing this service to every student who studies with me free of charge and limiting homework pages to 2. While I realize Whales English allowed students to submit 3 pages, please understand that I do MANY jobs that I had a company do for me in the past. It’s very difficult to replace a team with 1 man
- Class Playback
I understand that there are many features that are no longer available in the world of online English learning. However, it is my desire to replace as many features for you and your children as possible. I provide class playbacks so that you may watch a previous lesson for up to 2.5 months after the lesson is completed. I encourage you to use the feature to aid in your reviews and further your learning. I enable this feature with every class taught over the ClassIn app. If for any reason ClassIn becomes unavailable, I will work to keep this feature available.
- Student Feedback
It is important to me to give feedback to students in class about what they have done correctly. For example: “Good reading, Tony!”. If they are unable to say a word correctly, I encourage them to sound it out or for their classmate to help them before helping them. I want to give the students every opportunity to do it correctly and encourage good learning habits so the students can remember their errors and self-correct in the future. Please see examples of after-class feedback that I have given to real students recently. I will use asterisks in place of students’ real English names for privacy.
**** is a very smart girl and did well in our writing lesson today. She wrote many good sentences such as “A flamingo is pink, but an alligator is green”. If she continues to have classes with me I will be working to improve her pronunciation, sentences, and reading skills. I want **** to practice the words “details”, “article”, “topic”, “Supporting”, “Capital” and “period”. I am very proud of ****’s hard work to sound out the words and remember them. ***** worked hard in our lesson today. He was quick to speak and give extra details. He was prepared and was able to understand the story about Tim Samaras and worked to pronounce “Samaras” correctly. In our future lessons I would like to help ***** with his pronunciation skills so that he can speak more clearly and sound like a native speaker. I also want to help him improve his sentences. ***** please practice the words “Tornado”, “chases” and “pitch”. I hope to see you again, *****!
Previous Schedule & Awards
Above was my schedule at Whales English. I enjoy teaching and my students enjoy learning from me.
The award given for the most amount of perfect scores for the year of 2020 for trial classes. It was signed by the chief executive officer and a vice president.
This award was awarded for being evaluated by two other teachers (I don’t know which evaluators) in the same day and receiving a perfect score for both classes. This was an award that would go out monthly, but I was the only teacher to receive it twice in the same month. Please note that out of the thousands of teachers at Whales English, only the teachers you see were the ones who completely achieved Whales’s standards.
It was never my intention to seek awards, I only ever wanted to help my students achieve their very best. However, currently it can be difficult for parents to measure or rank who is a good teacher and who is not. Please allow my awards to help guide your decision.
